CASE STUDIES
Henekom Group Highlights
Advisory
FIFA Expert Advisory Group & Stakeholder Engagement Guide — Club World Cup 2025 & FIFA World Cup 26
- Advised on human rights standards and risk frameworks ahead of the tournaments as part of FIFA's Expert Advisory Group.
- Developed FIFA's Stakeholder Engagement Guide over two months with input from 80+ stakeholders, outlining a 12-step process to translate the UN Guiding Principles into local host city settings.
- This engagement preceded and directly informed Henekom's later host committee work in Houston and Dallas, giving the firm a rare vantage point spanning both the international standard-setting body and on-the-ground implementation.
Embedded Human Rights Leadership
FIFA World Cup 2026: Houston & Dallas Host Committees
- Held a seat on both Host Committees' executive teams, embedding human rights into strategic decision-making across every operational function rather than as advisory review.
- Led legal and intergovernmental review, including First Amendment analysis, ahead of public rollout.
- Wrote and implemented a Responsible Contracting Policy, Bid Management System, Model Contract Language and a Worker Support Hub.
Responsible Contracting Systems & Procurement
Responsible Contracting Policy & Bid Management System
- Designed and implemented the Responsible Contracting Policy across both host committees, applying tiered human rights and sustainability requirements based on contract value.
- Set a Code of Conduct requirement at every tier.
- Scaled up to full Supplier Agreements, Worker Safeguards Addendums, and Supplier Assessment.
- Built a risk-based vendor scoring system, flagging high-risk industries like food and beverage, construction, and private security.
- Embedded the human rights documentation directly into the Bid Management System, making compliance a condition of vendor eligibility rather than a separate step.
- Built in a waiver process, approved by the Chief Human Rights Officer, so the policy wouldn't unduly burden small and medium businesses.
Worker Support Hub
Grievance Mechanism Design and Access to Remedy
- Designed the grievance triage process, including intake and consent forms and a decision-making flowchart.
- Partnered with an international law firm providing pro bono services, to evaluate human rights issues ahead of the Fan Festival and advise on grievances reported through the complaint portal or the Worker Support Hub.
- Unique Worker Support Hub and mobile worker care teams helped enforce aspects of the Responsible Contracting Policy.
Youth Legacy Programming
Grow the Game (Houston only)
- Partnered with the City of Houston and Harris County officials to launch Grow the Game, expanding access to youth soccer in underserved communities across Harris County.
